2025 in Review: Clean Water, Brighter Futures
Pump Aid has made remarkable progress in 2025. We have expanded our reach to more vulnerable communities, increasing safe, reliable water access where it’s needed most. By strengthening clean water access, we have catalyzed a ripple effect of positive change in rural Malawi that supports health, education, livelihoods, and climate resilience.
Our Goals for 2025
Pump Aid embarked on the new year with an ambitious vision to reach new communities, expand access to clean water, support sustainable livelihoods, and strengthen climate resilience. Our goals for 2025 included:
- Growing Beyond Water’s business to reach approximately 400,000 people in 1,000 rural communities
- Maintaining waterpoint functionality above 98% for our customers
- Repairing 400 non-functional waterpoints to restore clean water access to 40,000 people
- Supporting gender equality by reducing the amount of time spent by women and girls collecting water, creating more time for education and productive output
- Increasing water security by helping rural communities adopt climate adaptation strategies that protect groundwater supplies
Our 2025 Impact in Numbers
Thanks to the dedication of our team and the generosity of our supporters, Pump Aid achieved significant impact throughout 2025. This year, we were able to:
- Secure reliable access to clean water for 387,450 people in rural Malawi
- Grow Beyond Water’s business to serve a total of 945 community customers, with over 700 communities actively contracted
- Complete 2,425 waterpoint repair and maintenance services
- Restore 347 non-functional handpumps to be a reliable source of clean water
- Train 6 new Area Mechanics and provide ongoing support to our team of 25 Area Mechanics
- Achieve an average waterpoint functionality rate of 100%
What This Impact Means for Communities
We are beyond proud to have achieved the above impact in 2025. These achievements demonstrate the strength of our approach to sustainable clean water access. Since Beyond Water’s establishment, we have now secured safe water access for more than 380,000 people in Malawi. Clean water is more than a basic resource. It is the foundation for healthier families, stronger local economies, improved educational outcomes, and greater opportunities for women and girls.
We are especially proud to welcome 6 new Area Mechanics to our team. These local water entrepreneurs are equipped with the business, technical, and financial skills needed to deliver high quality repair and maintenance services, allowing them to earn a steady income and foster sustainable livelihoods. Alongside these new recruits, our 19 existing Area Mechanics received additional training, incentives, and ongoing support to help them grow their businesses and strengthen community water systems.
Looking Ahead
As the new year approaches, we are so excited to see what lies ahead. In 2026, we plan to reach even more communities, expand our services, and continue empowering rural villages to thrive with reliable access to clean water.
Pump Aid extends heartfelt thanks to every person who supported us in 2025. Your generosity made this impact possible. Together, we can make 2026 an even stronger year for clean water and community resilience in Malawi.
